For some reason, if you let it, it just seems a little easier this time of year. Smiles, hugs, greetings, whatever it may be, there is something in the air that makes these gestures seem more natural as if we do these things or feel this way every day.
In a way, it’s kind of miracle if you think about it. What is it exactly? Is it the music? Is it the decorations? Maybe it is a combination of all of these things that make us more aware that there are some who are struggling to make their miracle happen.
What is really remarkable is that this time of year we find that we actually can share a little more, dig a little deeper, reach out a little farther and give a little more.
For a few, ‘those who have figured it out’, it’s every day. But for most of us, it’s this time of year that the pull to become involved in making a stranger or somebody else’s life better is just a little bit stronger.
The lessons are understood a little easier as we come to understand that we really never know that what could seem to be the smallest of gestures, a smile, or a random act of kindness has the ability to change lives. As we reach out this time of year, we realize that it’s not just the poor or the homeless who need this miracle, it’s everybody that needs this miracle to be sure that everybody gets the miracle.
Some may be struggling to feed their family or themselves, it’s this time of year that we feel more compelled to stop by, bring them some cookies or meal and just say ‘Hi’. It’s that time of year that it just seems obvious that the extra blanket or coat in the closet could help someone dealing with the cold and for some reason, it’s just easier to give.
It’s that time of the year when it is easier to understand that it’s when we give that the miracle can happen for us.
This year, learn from ‘those who have figured it out’, it CAN happen every day. But only when you are hungry for that feeling and never stop trying to be the people we always knew we could be.
So, take that chance, give just a little more, chat a little longer, love a little more, reach out a little farther, laugh a little longer, try a little harder…, after all, it’s that time of the year when miracles are known to happen.
