Woman Arrested After Sunday Morning Stabbing

Very early Sunday morning, March 30th, Coos County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in Coos Bay, following reports of a stabbing at approximately 4:45am.

While en route, deputies learned from a Coos Bay Police Officer that the victim, who had been stabbed twice requiring medical attention, was at a separate location, and that the suspect, identified as 40 year old Tonya Mauldin, was not present at that scene.

Coos County Sheriff’s deputies proceeded to the Coos Bay address to locate Mauldin and after interviewing occupants at the residence, Deputy Smith found Mauldin attempting to hide in the back of a bedroom.

Mauldin was arrested, and following a brief search, deputies seized the knife used in the attack as evidence.   Mauldin was then transported to the Coos County Jail and booked on charges of Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, both felony offenses.

The Assault charge is classified as a Measure 11 crime under Oregon law, carrying mandatory minimum sentencing requirements.
