On Friday afternoon, May 1st, just after 1:00 pm Fort Dick Fire responded to reports that a vehicle had struck a tree on Hwy. 199 west of the Hiouchi Bridge .
Fort Dick Fire Department with Smith River Fire, Del Norte Ambulance, and the California Highway Patrol came upon a scene with the vehicle on its roof, and the driver trapped in the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was extricated by fire personnel using the jaws of life and was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital by Del Norte Ambulance with moderate injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
