On June 16, the Wild Coast Compass reported that the Oregon State Police had responded to a 911 call from a Grants Pass female who had reported that a male had been assaulted and that he was in need of medical attention.
The woman stayed on the phone with 911 and began driving to the hospital. As Troopers were responding they located the male in the middle of Galice Rd. and evidence that a vehicle had left the road and went into Hellgate Canyon.
Rural Metro Fire personnel rappelled into Hellgate Canyon and there they located a Honda Civic with a female operator that sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

On Friday, Jume 29th, Rural Metro Firefighters were on standby early this morning at Hellgate Canyon, as a Croman Corp heavy helicopter removed the vehicle that crashed at the overlook on June 16.
The vehicle was carefully removed and without incident.
