After COVID-19 restrictions began to ease nation-wide and Oregon remained on the list of being one the most restrictive states, the Oregon House of Representatives released a statement to the Governor just last week urging her to “re-open Oregon immediately and rescind the COVID-19 emergency orders in the state.” “Oregon does not need to be the most restrictive state on the West Coast.” the statement continues, “or one of the last states to re-open nationwide. Oregonians have sacrificed so much during this pandemic.”
Vaccination rates have stalled in recent weeks both nationwide and statewide as President Biden’s and Governor Brown’s July 4th deadlines loom, as of June 25th, the state sits at 65.5% vaccinated, an increase of less than 1% in the past week after 4 weeks, a roughly 1% growth rate per week according to Oregon Health Authority data.
On Friday, June 25th Governor Brown signed an executive order “lifting all remaining COVID-19 health and safety restrictions issued under Oregon’s emergency statutes. Restrictions will be lifted when Oregon achieves a 70% first dose adult vaccination rate or on Wednesday, June 30th, whichever occurs sooner.”
As of Friday, June 25th, the state of Oregon has tested 5,373,773 individuals, an increase of 131,532 individuals in the past week and now, over 1,084,333 more people than the states 4,289,440 population. Of that 5,072,618 have tested negative for the novel COVID-19 virus and 301,155 have tested positive. Since the pandemic began, Oregon has recorded 2,091 new cases in the past week, and 207,787 total cases. Individuals hospitalized continues to stay steady with just 114 hospitalizations statewide in the past week, and now stands at 11,670. In the past week 11 deaths were recorded statewide, and Oregonians who have unfortunately succumbed to COVID-19 has now reached 2,761 in the entire state since the pandemic began.
Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday June 25th, by the Oregon Health Authority, now reports testing 13,310 individuals with 12,670 negative tests, 640 total positive COVID-19 tests and after adding 33 new cases in the last week has recorded 734 total cases and 11 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 15,489 individuals, with 14,021 negative results, after adding 0 new cases in the past week now reaching 1,468 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 14 active cases, 0 current hospitalizations and 7 deaths.
Coos County to the north, reported testing 54,766 individuals last week with 52,108 negative results, adding 22 new cases in the past week with now 2,658 total positive cases and 37 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Josephine County has seen significant increases in recent weeks has reported testing 89,636 individuals with 85,355 negative results, 4,281 total positive test results adding 65 new cases in the past week with now 3,640 total cases of COVID-19 and now 72 deaths.
Humboldt County, to the south of Del Norte County, which includes the Eureka area, reports 71 new cases in the past week with 4,533 total cases after testing 97,133 individuals, 4,376 recoveries, 208 hospitalizations, and now 50 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Jackson County, which includes the Medford area, with a total population of 221,290, reports testing 259,188 individuals, 37,898 more people than the counties total population, with 241,626 negative test results, 17,562 positive results, and 11,597 total cases of COVID-19 with now 147 deaths as of Friday, June 25th.
