U.S. Forest Service Warns of Campsite Closures

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is putting campers on the Middle Fork of the Applegate River, Elliott Creek and Page Mountain on notice.

The U.S. Forest Service is warning that if campers don’t start cleaning up their garbage, human waste, and toilet paper, the Forest Service may be forced to close the area to camping for good.

At page Mountain camp area, the problem is a continuous destruction of facilities, from vandalism to property destruction.

There are also major problems with campers driving into the creek and riparian areas, damaging sensitive aquatic habitat and contributing to stream-side erosion.

Signs have been put up at dispersed campsites along Middle Fork and lower Elliott Creek warning campers to be more respectful while utilizing public land, or they will lose this dispersed camping opportunity due to human health concerns, garbage, and unsafe conditions.
