Watchstanders at U.S. Coast Guard station Coos Bay received a call Tuesday, June 21st, regarding a commercial fishing vessel experiencing engine problems south of the Coos Bay Bar.
A 47′ Motor Life Boat was immediately dispatched, however, with occasional 10’ steep wind generated swells at 6’- 8’, and 25 knot winds, Motor Life Boat 47234 was only able to make 3 knots enroute to the bar.
The 71’ F/V COHO had experienced an engine failure approximately 30 miles south of the Coos Bay Bar.
At 11:30pm, a second 47′ Motor Life Boat launched to relieve the tow just outside of the Coos Bay Bar, and both boats worked together to bring the 110 ton COHO into the marina, where COHO was able to regain propulsion and assist in mooring themselves up to their pier in the Charleston.
