U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River and Local Sport Fishing Charter Rescue Three 50 Miles Off the Coast

On Tuesday evening, August 13th, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a report of the commercial fishing vessel, the Mariah K, on fire approximately 50 nautical miles off the coast of Brookings Oregon.  

The fire was reported by a Good Samaritan, charter vessel Eli’s Tide, operated by TideWind Sportsfishing out of Brookings, who then retrieved the three crew members in the water near the actively burning vessel 50 nautical miles west of Brookings.  

The survivors were then transferred from the Eli’s Tide to a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River.  

One survivor was further medevaced by an aircrew Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay before all three individuals were transported to Saint Francis Hospital in San Fransisco.  

The Coast Guard is investigating this as a Serious Marine Incident.
