U.S. Coast Guard Rescues Two, One Dies After Vessel Capsizes in Winchester Bay

On Thursday, September 5th, dispatchers received reports of a capsized vessel resulting with people in the water in Winchester Bay, approximately 23 miles north of Coos Bay.

A 47′ Motor Life Boat was dispatched from U.S. Coast Guard Station Umpqua River.  

According to reports, the vessel, with three men aboard were entering the bay when a large wave struck the 18 ft. vessel, knocking the three men into the water and ultimately capsizing the vessel.  

Two of the men were rescued from the water by the U.S. Coast Guard Station Umpqua River Motor Life Boat crew and were transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital for medical treatment, however the third individual was located unconscious and lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.
