U.S. Coast Guard Rescues Disabled Vessel with 50 Nautical Mile, 13 hour Tow

On Tuesday, September 10th, U.S. Coast Guard Station Umpqua River, received communication from the Fishing Vessel Betty Jean, requesting assistance after experiencing a Transmission failure, leaving them dead in the water.

A Motor Life Boat crew was launched at 8:31am, making the transit to the Betty Jean, nearly 50 nautical miles offshore in approximately 3 hours,  arriving on scene at 11:32am.

Once on scene, the crew passed a P-6 pump and a handheld radio to the Betty Jean, before placing them into an 800 foot stern tow.

The first arriving Motor Life Boat crew 47208 towed the Betty Jean, before meeting with the Motor Life Boat 47213 at 7:29pm to transfer the tow.

They then crossed the bar with the Betty Jean in a 200 foot stern tow, followed by switching to an alongside tow and safely mooring them inside the East Basin.
