U.S. Coast Guard Aircrew Med-Evacs Man From Ship

A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a 28-year-old man Friday morning off the fishing vessel ‘Alaska Ocean,’ which was operating 15-miles west of Coos Bay.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Bend aircrew hoisted the man after he experienced chest pains and seasickness.

The Coast Guard District Command Center was notified at 3:15am by the company who owns the fishing vessel that the man was suffering medical issues. A constant communication schedule was established between the sector and the fishing vessel.

At 6:00am, after conferring with the duty flight surgeon, the sector dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew which arrived on scene at 9:00am and began hoist operations to transport the man.

The aircrew brought him to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Bend air base, where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical services.

The current condition of the man is unknown.
