Two Westerman 2 Run Homers Not Enough for Panthers against Reedsport

Freshman right-hander Jake Westerman was the starting pitcher for the Panthers throwing 3-1/2 innings for coach Hollinger.

Gold Beach Panther baseball has been on quite a run of late, coming into Monday afternoons contest against 7-1 Reedsport on a 4 game win streak.

The Panthers sent freshman right-hander Jake Westerman #2 to mound to face a confident Reedsport line-up, and the Reedsport offense attacked early putting up 5 runs up in the first two innings of play.

Gold Beach got one across the plate in the first two innings, before sophomore #15 Austin Westerman stepped into the box and gave the Panthers a one point lead after a two run homer over the left field fence giving Gold Beach a 4-3 lead gong into the 4th.

In the top of the 4th, the top of the Reedsport line-up would attack Panther pitching again, putting up 5 runs in their offensive half of the inning, and putting the Panthers behind 4-8 after 4-1/2.  

Sophomore #12 Chase Sprinkle applying the tag a 2nd also threw 3-1/2 in relief.

But the Panthers could not keep Reedsport off the base paths in the 7th who crossed three runners across the plate, taking a 10-12 lead into the Gold Beach half of the 7th, that the Panthers would not recover from.

Coach Hollinger and his Panther team will be at home Thursday, taking on the 7-1 Toledo Boomers at noon.
