Late Wednesday afternoon, September 20th, A to 911 call from a man resulted in Coos County Sheriff’s deputies being dispatched after the caller reported a man had been assaulted and came to him for help.
An investigation began after first responding deputies arrived at the location, and information obtained from the victim indicated he had been forcibly held against his will by use of a firearm and knife.
The information obtained from the victim during responding deputies initial investigation, indicated the victim had been forcibly held against his will since September 19th by two suspects later identified as 29 year old Donald E. Bignell and 32 year old Terry J. Dewolf.
Deputies also learned several crimes occurred during that 24 hour period in multiple law enforcement jurisdictions leading to another location where they located the victim’s vehicle, which his attackers had previously stolen.
Upon deputies arrival, two men fled from the rear of the residence and into the woods. Coos County Sheriff’s K9 deputy Cena, responded to the location and a criminal apprehension track for the men was conducted. After approximately two miles of tracking through dense vegetation, brush, and several creeks, both men were found by K9 deputy Cena, hiding under a rotten tree.
Both Donald E. Bignell and Terry J. Dewolf were arrested without incident and once back to the roadway, both men told officers on the scene they had ingested fentanyl.
Both men were transported to Bay Area Hospital for medical clearance and then to the Coos County Jail on multiple charges in both Coos Bay as well as Coos County including Robbery I, Kidnap I, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Coercion, and Menacing for Donald E. Bignell with charges of Robbery I, Kidnap I, Unlawful use of a Weapon, Menacing, Coercion, and Assault IV charged to Terry J. Dewolf .
