Early Thursday evening, February 6th, multiple agencies assisted the Coos Bay Police Department responding to an 8th Terrace address in Coos Bay, in search of an individual suspected by the Coos Bay Police Department to have possibly been involved in two vehicle pursuits on Wednesday, February 5th.
After the individual fled from Coos Bay Police officers at a high rate of speed in a vehicle that had been stolen from the Curry County area, alternative investigative means were reportedly used by authorities to determine the individuals location.
Officers had been alerted that the individual was in possession of a firearm as pursuits traveled through a school zone during the school day and residential areas at high rates of speed with disregard for traffic signals before officers would suspend the pursuit with concern for public safety.
The stolen car was later discovered crashed in North Bend following the second pursuit, however, the individual, identified as 34 year old Deven Dunn, was not located following a search of the area.
Mr. Dunn’s presence inside the 8th Terrace residence was confirmed by Coos Bay Police and a search warrant to enter was granted and at approximately 3:15pm, Coos Bay Police officers returned to serve the search warrant, making announcements outside of the residence and deploying the Drone Team.
Numerous people voluntarily left the house, and officers learned that Mr. Dunn had barricaded himself inside the basement and was armed.
The Oregon State Police SWAT Team was requested due to the circumstances and safety concerns, arriving several hours later to search for Mr. Dunn.
During the search inside the residence for Mr. Dunn, a person unrelated to the case was located and released before the SWAT Team was eventually able to safely locate Mr. Dunn inside the residence.
Mr. Dunn was taken into custody by the Coos Bay Police Department on multiple probable cause charges including two counts of elude in a vehicle, two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and escape in the third degree.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office also had probable cause for Mr. Dunn’s arrests, charging him with possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding in a vehicle, theft in the first degree, attempt to commit a class C felony, and failure to perform the duties of a driver—property damage.
Due to lodging limitations with the Coos County Jail, Mr. Dunn was transferred into the custody of the DCSO to be transported and lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
