Trifecta of Bruin State Championship Play-Offs TODAY!!!

Today, Saturday, November 9th, may actually be a historic day in Bruin sports history as three varsity sports will be participating in play-off situations in OSAA state championship tournaments.

The Brookings-Harbor High School Bruin football team, boys soccer team, and the Bruin boys cross-country team will all be competing today, literally from one of the state to another.

Jess Beaman and his repeat champion Bruin soccer team will be on the pitch AT HOME at the BHHS soccer field 1:00pm in their quarter final match-up against the Crusaders from St. Mary’s. After advancing Wednesday in tough match-up with the Western Christian/Perrydale Pioneers that resulted in a 3-2 Bruin win, the 14-0-1 OSAA ranked #9 Crusaders are next on the list.

The 16-0 #3 OSAA ranked Brookings-Harbor boys soccer team will again have it’s hands full as the Crusaders come into town boasting a defense that has only allowed 5 goals against them all season long with 11 shut-outs. Again another evenly matched play-off contest and the Bruins can not afford another slow start against a team that does not allow goals. If the Crusaders have a weakness, it is scoring. St. Mary’s has scored 73 goals in their 16 games compared to the 119 goals the Bruins have put behind the keeper. This should be another great game, get out to the school this afternoon, TODAY at 1:00pm and help push Bruins soccer to the next level.

The Bruin varsity football team will be on the road today at 1:00pm in their first round play-off game against the Amity Warriors in Amity, for a rematch of last years play-off game. The Bruin defense will need to come up big to slow the 7-2 OSAA #4 Amity Warrior offense who are averaging almost 36 points per game.

Bruin defense has been consistent all season long, and has kept its opponents under it’s average offensive output throughout the season. Look for some surprises from Coach Bavaro and his staff as they look to give the Warriors a Bruin look Amity has not prepared for.

In the third act, head coach Terry Axel and his 2019 Champion boys cross-country team will send 7 qualifying runners to the 3A OSAA State Championships Cross-Country Meet TODAY Saturday, Nov. 9, at Lane Community College in Eugene.

Kaleb Barnes

The Bruins, will be led by Kaleb Barnes who took first place in the district championships last week after finishing the 5k course in 17:08. Not only did Terry Axel’s Boys Cross-Country team win the district championship, but they more importantly finished 7 runners, Everest Abblitt, Zachary Abblitt, Kaleb Barnes, Branko Briggs, Robby Rowe, Daniel Strom, and Dane Steendahl in the top 10.

From Amity to Brookings with Eugene in between, the Bruins are playing Today somewhere near you. Find a way to get out to help our Bruin athletes finish strong.

Again, the only home game of the three in Brookings is the Bruin boys soccer quarter-final match-up TODAY at Brookings-Harbor High School soccer field at 1:00pm.
