Traffic Stop Uncovers Firearms and Narcotics, Sends Two Convicted Felons to Jail

Just before 8:00pm, Monday evening, September 23rd, Coos County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop on an individual who had who had just received two citations after being pulled over earlier.  

The individual, identified as 37 year old Jonathan Thompkins, and his passenger, 40 year old Justin Williams, began exhibiting suspicious behavior when the two were questioned regarding weapons in the vehicle.

Both men were recognized by one of the deputies from a prior incident involving a firearm found in the vehicle, and after citations were issued to both individuals, the two left the area.  

However, the deputies noticed a shotgun in the back of the truck and understanding that both men were convicted felons, they were summoned back to the scene.  

Upon conducting a consent search of the vehicle, the deputies discovered the shotgun along with another pistol, both of which were accessible to the occupants. Additionally, a significant amount of ammunition and narcotic paraphernalia was found inside the vehicle.  

Both Thompkins and Williams were arrested for two counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. They were taken to the Coos County Jail for booking and lodging, and all firearms, ammunition, and narcotic paraphernalia were seized as evidence.
