The top ranked undefeated Lakeview Lady Honkers made the grueling 6 hour trip from Lakeview to challenge head coach Tony Baron’s Bruin girls varsity softball team in a Saturday afternoon double header.
In the opening game coach Baron sent sophomore right-hander Jaci Arlandson to the circle for the Bruin girls, and Arlandson held the high scoring Lady Honkers scoreless in the first.
The Bruin girls bats struggled early with Lakeview pitching, failing to get runners on the basepaths or put any pressure on the Lady Honker defense while going scoreless in the early innings.
Lakeview bats found their rhythm in the second, loading the basepaths with Lady Honkers and pushing 6 runners across the plate to take an early 0-6 lead.
Trailing, the Bruin girls desperately tried to get runners on the bases, but Lakeview pitching was not issuing walks, forcing the Bruin girls to put the ball in play in tough hitting counts, keeping the Bruin girls scoreless.
The Lady Honker offense would add 10 more points, scoring in every inning to close out the game.
In the second game of the double-header, the Bruin girls defense was much tougher on the Lady Honkers, holding Lakeview to just 5 points in the game. However, the Bruin girls would only manage 1 run in the series as the Lady Honkers took both games.
The Bruin girls will be on the road this Thursday, traveling to Glide to take on the 7-5 Lady Wildcats, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
