As early as Monday, August 21st, the Xaa-wan’-k’wvt Village & Resort (old Ship Ashore) RV Park located at 12370 Highway 101 North in Smith River, had generously opened for any and all people who have been displaced during the recent fire evacuations.
Over the past week, the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation has welcomed RVs, campers, tents, etc. asking only that evacuees please check-in first at the Rec Hall building with the shelter coordinator and/or volunteers so they can get you settled in.
The Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation is extremely appreciative of all the volunteers and tribal staff that have given donations and/or volunteered their time to support the operations of the shelter for evacuees.
Evacuation level changes and the relatively new Winchuck River evacuations of the last few days have grown the area exponentially and have stressed resources equally as much.
This evacuation area is in need of assistance from our extraordinarily generous and caring communities. A short list of needs includes:
Laundry soap, Zip lock bags, Gloves, Batteries, Paper plates, Plastic ware, Syrup, Pancake mix, Butter, Flour, Sugar, Cereal, Powdered milk, Canned fruit, Cheese, Coffee, Tortillas, Feminine hygiene, Canned Meats and Beans and of course Water.
If you would like to help, or volunteer, please call the shelter at 707-487-3181.
