Three Quakes Rattle Off the Coast Friday

A series of three quakes struck off the northern California, southern Oregon coast Friday, starting just before 6:00am and ending later Friday evening.

The first, and smallest of the three temblors struck at 5:49am, 83 miles west of Pistol river approximately 6 miles deep with a magnitude registering 3.1 on the Richter scale.  

The second and third temblors struck within seconds of each other and virtually on top of each other, approximately 140 miles off the coast of Brookings, with the first measuring 5.1 and the second measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale just after 8:00pm.  

No tsunami’s or tsunami warnings were generated as a result of these quakes.
