Threat Cancels Azalea Middle School Dance Friday

In a Friday morning news release from Brookings-Harbor School District Superintendent Helena Chirinian, it was reported that an Azalea Middle School after-school dance, scheduled for 3:30pm Friday afternoon until 5:30pm early Friday evening, March 22nd, was cancelled out of an abundance of caution after the school district became aware of a concerning message related to the after-school dance.

School district administration, in coordination with the Brookings Police Department, conducted a thorough investigation and found no credible evidence to substantiate the threat.

“This decision was not made lightly. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families are our utmost priorities.” Superintendent Helena Chirinian stated in the release. “In today’s climate, we believe it is better to err on the side of caution. Canceling the event allows us to avoid any unnecessary stress or worry this situation might cause within our community.”

The school day continued as scheduled, and regular dismissal times remained unchanged.
