Just like the weather lately, the Bruins Football Association Flag Football program is heating up as this years season begins to wind down.
Through out the season, we have spoken with participating coaches to get their visions and what they hope everybody involved takes away from their flag football experience. This week we feature Chad Bauer, owner of Bauer Auto Body & Paint and flag football coach in the 6th to 8th grade divisions.
Talking with coach Bauer, coach of the Ravens, we asked him if he had any previous coaching experiences before taking on this challenge. “I have been coaching in this community for the past 10 years,” he said, “coaching football, soccer, basketball and baseball with kids aging from 4 years old to 14.” he said.
When we asked coach Bauer what he expected going into this coaching experience, he told the Compass “I didn’t really know what to expect when I first started” he said, “but, I did anticipate some difficulty getting these young players to understand their position and role in the game plan, which they adapted to and embraced very quickly.”
“Aside from understanding their position and roles so quickly, the one thing that surprises me the most is that these boys and girls have so much heart and dedication for the sports that they play.” he said.
“Overall, it has been fun watching these young athletes grow at every level and at each sport they pursue. I’ve enjoyed being part of, as well as watching these young athletes grow into great young men and women.”
Finally, we asked coach Bauer what he hopes these kids take away from his coaching experience. “This program, as well as the Rookie Tackle program coming up, has been wonderful for kids at all ages, it’s competitive yet fun at the same time.”
“My hope is that these kids get a sense of accomplishment and direction while developing the skills at the sports they play at every level, and have a great time doing it.”
