According to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife test results from crab viscera samples collected on January 12th indicate domoic acid remains elevated in the southern Oregon area. The fishery in this area will remain closed while additional sampling is conducted and an announcement will be made when results are available.
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon Department of Agriculture, with input from industry, may consider opening the area under an evisceration order if the elevated domoic acid in crab viscera persists and domoic acid levels in crab meat samples remain below the threshold level.
