Late Thursday morning, November 7th, just before 11:30 am the Crescent City Police Department was dispatched to a report of a suspicious device at the National Parks building on Second St.
Units from the Crescent City Police Department with the California Highway Patrol, the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, and the National Parks personnel were able to quickly set up a perimeter and close K street from 3rd to Front Street as the building was being evacuated according to a press release from Crescent City Police Chief Richard Griffin.
After establishing a perimeter and an incident command location, it was determined that this was not a specific threat towards the National Parks building and that it was a box of items that had been accidentally dropped from a truck on Hwy. 101 in front of the building.
After the object was observed, it was determined that it was a transportation device for controlled substances that is normally attached to the bottom of a vehicle.
