Early Sunday morning, March 19th, deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a rural Medford residence just outside the city limits of Medford after receiving a 911 call reporting an attempted burglary at approximately 5:40am.
The subject reportedly gained entry to the residence through the doggy door of the garage before being confronted at gunpoint by the homeowner.
The suspect, later identified as 37 year old Michael Caleb Baker, attempted to flee as Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and was tracked down by Deputies before being apprehended and arrested around 15 minutes later after a brief search of the area.
Baker, a Medford area transient, left behind a trail of evidence and stolen property during his early Sunday morning crime spree. When contacted by Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies, he was in possession of stolen items from four nearby properties in that rural area just outside the city limits of Medford. These items included a $5,000 mountain bike, tent, and coins. Upon thorough investigation, Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies were able to identify additional victims and locate further evidence of the crime spree.
Baker is charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, two counts of second-degree theft, three counts of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, five counts of second-degree criminal trespass, and second-degree criminal mischief.
Baker was on parole for second-degree burglary so was also charged with a parole violation and is lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
