At about 9:30 Sunday night fire crews from Medford Fire along with crews from Fire District 3 responded to a report of a grass fire near the railroad tracks behind Dick’s Sporting Goods.

First responders arrived to find a fire in piles of discarded railroad ties that was approximately 140 feet x 20 feet by 8 to 10 feet deep. Crews were on-scene until early Monday morning. The fire was possibly started by a transient camp.

A backhoe operator from the Railroad was called to the scene and moved the railroad ties so that the fire could be fully extinguished.
