Sunday Afternoon Alert Advises 911 Lines Down

At approximately 1:45pm, Sunday afternoon, May 5th, an alert was released to Curry County residents, stating that 911 lines were down.

The alert was received by some via text, some by voicemail, some by email and some reported receiving a phone call while some residents reported receiving all forms of the message stating: “911 calls are currently down. If you have an emergency please use our business line of 541-247-6661. Reply with YES to confirm receipt.”  

Later Sunday afternoon, another alert was issued stating: “My dispatch advised the notice was only informational that 911 lines are down currently and to only call 541 247-6661 in case of an emergency. Dispatch is getting inundated with people calling in regarding the original notice. Dispatch is asking that only emergency calls to the land line number at this time would be appreciated. Dispatch will notify the public once the 911 lines are operational. Thank you.”  

As of very late Sunday evening, May 5th, no other alerts, clarifications or information had been issued.

UPDATE: 5/7/2024

Just after 7:00pm Monday evening, another alert was issued stating “Emergency 911 lines have been fully restored for all of Curry County. Reply with YES to confirm receipt.”

The message was also circulated on social media at approximately 7:00pm stating that dispatch had advised that the 911 lines were now operational, and that it was reported that a Ziply fiber was cut affecting both Gold Beach as well as Brookings.
