String of Thefts Targets Female Shoppers

Over the last 90 days, six female shoppers at Trader Joe’s have had their wallets stolen from their purse while it was in the shopping cart. According to a press release from the Medford Police Department on Wednesday, December 13th, in all of the cases, the suspects quickly used the credit cards at nearby stores, such as Best Buy, Office Depot and Target. They know what they are doing because they are able to rack up several thousand dollars in each case, often purchasing gift cards.

The victims have all been females, aged 65 to 85. Sometimes, the suspects work in tandem with one distracting the shopper while the other one commits the theft.

Authorities believe the suspects are traveling up and down I-5 doing this. They often drive high-end SUVs, the most recent case being a black Range Rover Discovery with California Plates.

Although they are targeting Trader Joe’s in the most recent cases, we have seen this happen just about everywhere during the holiday shopping season.

Please take precautions if you are out shopping. Thank you!
