On Tuesday morning, May 21st, a 2002 Subaru Forester was reported stolen in Cave Junction. A California Highway Patrol Officer located the vehicle traveling north on Highway 101.
The vehicle crossed the Oregon/California state line and the pursuit was picked up by the Curry County Sheriff and the Oregon State Police. Within a mile of the stateline, the vehicle attempted to negotiate a turn exiting Hwy. 101, lost control and crashed.
Subsequently, the female driver, 25 year old Aspin Branch was immediately apprehended, however, the male passenger, 31 year old Brian McMahan, fled on foot into nearby brush.
Brookings Police Officer Zane VanZelf and K9 Officer ‘Hulk’ pursued and tracked McMahan through the wooded area and located McManan near Winchuck River Road where he was found hiding in the brush.
Both Branch and McMahan were arrested on site, booked on numerous charges and are currently lodged in the Curry County Jail.
