The departure of two key members of the City’s public works and development services staff was announced this week by Brookings City Manager Gary Milliman.
Public Works and Development Services Director Paul Stevens has resigned effective December 15 to accept the position of City Engineer in Kuna, Idaho. Kuna is located near Boise and has a population of about 13,000.
“Paul has a long history of public works service in Idaho and we wish him well,” Milliman said. Stevens had served in the Brookings position for about 15 months. He previously served as Public Works Director in Payette, Idaho, for nine years.
The City will retain the services of GIS/EOC Coordinator Jordan Fanning on a part-time basis following his resignation from full-time employment, also effective December 15. Fanning had served with the City for about five years and is also a member of the Brookings Volunteer Fire Department. Fanning will work for the City remotely.
“Jordan did an outstanding job providing GIS and other support services during the Chetco Bar Fire, which did not go unnoticed by state and federal teams who worked with him,” Milliman said. “Jordan has told me that he would like to pursue an emergency management career, and I think some great opportunities will be coming his way,” Milliman said.
Meanwhile, the Community Planner position vacated by Mark Schexnayder in October remains unfilled. “We are reassessing how best to provide planning services and may reassign some of the duties to other existing employees while contracting some of the work to another government agency or a private contractor,” Milliman said. “For now, Parks/Planning Manager Tony Baron, Building Official Garrett Thomson and Administrative Assistant Lauri Ziemer will share the day-to-day planning services.”
Milliman said he is currently working on a plan to restructure the City’s public works and planning management functions.
