Head coach Kara Miller and the Bruin girls varsity basketball team were home Tuesday evening, hosting the 6-3 North Valley Lady Knights.
Both teams came out looking to get an early lead, but the frantic pace after the opening tip only allowed the Lady Knights to hit their opening shots to take a 0-5 lead half way through the first as the Bruin girls struggled to find the basket. The Bruin girls would put up five points in the period after the slow start closing to within three points after holding North Valley to just 8 points tp start the game.
But the second period would prove to be much of the same as the Bruin girls again struggled to start the period as North Valley extended their lead to six with four mled by sophomore forward, leinutes left in the first half before the Bruin girls would rally late led by sophomore forward Adison Hodges who scored six in the period and the Bruin girls trailing by one going into half-time 11-12.
As the game tightened, both teams relied on the fundamentals looking for consistency to keep pace with the other, and the Bruin girls responded, forcing mistakes in their 2-3 zone and working the ball into the paint for another 7 points from Hodges while taking advantage of cold shooting from the Lady Knights offense to take a lead in the quarter.
The Bruin girls trailed by one to start the fourth, but again powered their way back to lead 24-23 with just four minutes left to play, but the Bruin girls couldn’t keep the momentum late as North Valley found the bottom of the basket for seven points in the final minutes to take the 24-29 win.
The Bruin girls will be on the road this Friday, traveling to Medford to take on the 8-1 Cascade Christian Lady Challengers, tipping off at 5:30pm.
