Single Vehicle Crash Takes a Life

Tuesday, July 23, just before 2:00 am, Illinois Valley Fire District, American Medical Response, and Rural Metro were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash near Selma on Lakeshore Dr.

Units arrived to find a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into a tree causing severe damage to the vehicle. The force of the impact trapped the driver, the single occupant, under the dash.

Extrication was performed by Illinois Valley Fire with assistance from Rural Metro and the American Medical Response medic unit. The patient was transported by American Medical Response to Illinois Valley Fire station 2 (Selma Station) where she was transferred to the REACH helicopter.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Cave Junction resident Anna Grafwallner, was then flown to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center by REACH Air Medical Service, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The patient’s dog, also in the car, is being cared for by the neighbor across the street from the crash.

Lakeshore Dr. was closed for a few hours while Oregon State Police investigated the cause of the crash.
