Sex Offender Not Returning to Curry County

As reported by the Wild Coast Compass on April 6th, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office had sent out a public notification regarding Gary Caughey, a High-Risk Sex Offender, being released from prison and required to return to live in Curry County and to be supervised by Parole and Probation per OAR.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office and our Parole and Probation Division fielded many concerns from citizens and other local law enforcement agencies regarding Caughey returning to Curry County where we have limited resources.

The Sheriff’s Office Parole and Probation Director made several contacts with the Oregon State Parole Board addressing our concerns and asked for a waiver to another county who have more resources for Caughey. The State Parole Board was able to find another county in the northern part of the state who was willing to accept Caughey. As of today, we were notified that the waiver was granted and Caughey will not be coming to Curry County upon his release on 04-23-18.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the cooperation we have with the Oregon State Parole Board and the county Caughey will be released to.
