Many areas will still have fresh snow on the ground, and the extreme cold weather is expected tonight into Friday morning.
The two big wildcards with the temperature forecast are cloud cover and snow cover. We are forecasting the sky to become mostly clear tonight. But, if clouds remain, low temperatures could be several degrees higher. If skies do clear completely, some areas that have snow cover could be several degrees lower.
Either way, temperatures will be cold enough that any wet, slushy roads will refreeze resulting in the potential for black ice. Slow down and use extra caution while driving tonight.
Make efforts to protect pipes and any sensitive vegetation. Also, don’t forget about pets! A good rule is that if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them. Bring them in for the night or make sure they have safe, adequate shelter.
