A series of quakes rattled northern California Monday morning, with the first quake of the series being the largest, registering 4.8 on the Richter scale.
The series of temblors began early Monday morning with a 4.8 magnitude wake up call at 3:20am, about 50 miles south of Eureka, followed by a 4.0 magnitude quake just 11:00 minutes later less than 20 miles off the coast of Eureka at 3:31am.
Two smaller quakes then struck later in the morning with a 3.0 at 6:00am about 50 miles south of Eureka, followed by a another 2.9 quake just over 6 miles off the coast of Eureka at 7:15am.
A tsunami was not generated and no tsunami warnings were issued.
