Selma Fire Destroys Two Structures

Just before 9:00am Monday morning, July 9th, units from Illinois Valley Fire District responded to a Commercial Fire at the Smoking Duck Restaurant in Selma, OR.

There were two apartments in the rear of the restaurant, but only one was occupied. The gentleman from that apartment was able to escape with his cats. The fire was knocked down at approximately 11:00am.

This was an old building that had housed different restaurants over the years. At one time John Wayne, while visiting a rancher friend in the valley was a regular customer there.


Clean up continued till 3:45 PM. IVFD was assisted by Rural Metro, Oregon Department of Forestry, Grants Pass Fire, AMR, and PP&L.

Traffic control was provided by IVFD CERT and ODOT. Gasquet Fire moved an engine and crew up to the IVFD station 1 to cover the valley. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
