Second Drying Barn Destroyed by Fire in as Many Days

Rural Metro Fire & Grants Pass Department of Public Safety were dispatched by Josephine County 911 to a structure fire on Murphy Creek Road early this morning. Upon arrival of Battalion 5, a small cannabis drying shed was found fully involved.

Thankfully the occupant was able to use a garden hose to keep fire from spreading into the wildland or to nearby structures. The home received minor heat damage.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be related to an unspecified electrical issue associated with the drying process. This is the 2nd fire in two days involving drying sheds in Josephine County.

Due to the time of year, harvesters are urged to check all drying and electrical equipment in use, in hopes of preventing any additional fires.
