The undefeated Bruin varsity boys soccer team has much to proud of this year as a team, but they also have much to proud of on the individual level as well.
Last week, as voted by team coaches, Sam Broberg #10, a senior midfielder and captain was voted MVP of the 4A-3 Far West League. Throughout the season Sam proved to be the glue that kept this Bruin team functioning as a unit in games that were close and games that were not.
The Compass caught up with this well rounded young man Tuesday afternoon just before he lead his team out to the field to practice for their first playoff game next week.
When we spoke with Sam, it was clear the first thing he wanted to do was take this opportunity to thank everybody who has contributed to his 12-year soccer career. Of course, he first thanked his parents for the endless time and sacrifice they have provided him, but he wasted no time thanking his teammates as well as 4A-3 Far West League Coach of the Year Jess Beaman whom he has played for many years.
In the soccer world stats are just a way to quantify a players season, but it is observation, watching a player perform that really tells the tale of a players year. Sam had 11 goals and 7 assists on the year, but it was his “dedication to being ‘that guy’ who made the players around him better that set him apart this year” said Coach Beaman.
Speaking of Coach Jess Beaman, he also garnered some league praise by being chosen Coach of the Year in the 4A-3 Far West League. Beaman drove his team to a 9-0-1 league record this year and says that if his team continues to play as they have all year, the playoffs should be good to them. A thankful Beaman also acknowledged all the parents and the community for their support throughout the years.
