Routine Traffic Stop Reveals Guns and Drugs Resulting in Arrest

Just before 11:00pm late Wednesday evening, Crescent City Police conducted a traffic stop on northbound US  Highway 101 regarding a lighting violation.

During the traffic stop, a free air sniff was conducted by K9 Sgt. Murtaugh who alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.  

A search of the inside of individuals vehicle was conducted and officers located two suspected methamphetamine pipes, along with .33 gram of suspected methamphetamine.  A bottle of prescription pills were also located inside the vehicle that did not belong to the driver, identified as 44 year old Chas Rylee of Crescent City.

A loaded .22LR handgun in the center console by officers, as well as a second loaded .22LR Marlin rifle located in the trunk of the vehicle.

Subsequently Rylee was arrested and transported to the Del Norte County Jail and booked for possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
