Rural Metro Fire out of Grants Pass was dispatched to a vehicle fire in a remote location approximately 5 miles up Quartz Creek Rd, off Hugo Rd.
Upon arrival, Firefighters found the vehicle had rolled over a 20′ embankment and was fully involved. The driver, who escaped uninjured, stated he believed it was caused by a mechanical malfunction in the engine compartment.
The parking brake was set while parked on the road, however, the fire burned through the braking system, causing the vehicle to roll away prior to fire crew arrival. Due to the wet brush surrounding the vehicle, the fire did not spread.
