Redwood Holds On to Early Lead against Azalea Middle School Girls Basketball

Azalea Middle School girls basketball team hosted Redwood at Azalea Middle School who made the trip to Brrokings Wednesday evening.

Offensively, Redwood jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter of play as AMS struggled to keep pace.

After establishing a decisive lead in the first period, the Bruin girls defense continued to challenge shots and attempted to deny second shot opportunities under the basket.

Going into the second period, the offensive pressure from Redwood would give them a 7-24 lead midway through the second period.

As the second period closed, Redwood would score 7 more points to send teams to the the half-time break with the AMS Bruin girls trailing 7-32.

AMS came out in the third period and put together some shots to start closing the gap with their defense working hard under the basket, but Redwood could only be slowed down, expanding their lead midway through the third.

But the Bruin girls would answer late in the game, scoring 8 points in the second half to cut Redwood lead to close the third period.

But the fourth period continued to be a problem for the Bruin girls after inside shots and rebounds allowed Redwood to re-establish its largest lead of the game midway through the final period.

Again the Bruin girls would rally back late in the fourth, but Redwood would hold on to the lead early in the game, and Redwood would ultimately take the 19-46 win.
