The family dogs are credited with saving the occupants from a house fire on Verna Lane early this morning. Awakened by some noise and a dog whimpering, the occupants observed smoke and flames rapidly engulfing several rooms, but were able to escape without injury. Unfortunately, the dogs did not survive.
Firefighters from Rural Metro Fire – Josephine County and Grants Pass Department of Public Safety were able to contain the fire quickly. The cause remains under investigation.
