Coach Higgins and his varsity boys Panther football team made the 254 mile long road trip 25 miles East of Klamath Falls, to the town of Bonanza to take on the 1-1 Antlers. Looking to secure their first league game on the 2021 season, a determined Gold Beach team took to the field Friday night.
The Panthers asserted themselves early in the first quarter on a junior Landyn Miller #12 touchdown run followed by a 2 point conversion giving the Panthers an 8-0 lead that would never be threatened. The Panthers would score another touchdown and lead 16-0 before the Antlers would get on the scoreboard.
The Gold Beach defense was too athletic for the Antlers, and the defensive line shut down the Bonanza running game, limiting Antlegon r possessions, and allowing the Panther offense to get a Jake Westerman #7 pass reception for a touchdown, and a senior quarterback rushing touchdown from #13 Trenton Storns to go on and take a 28-6 lead into the half-time break.
In the second half of play, Coach Higgins’ Panthers proved they could sustain momentum after the break denying any opportunity for the Antlers to sustain any offense or threaten the Panther lead. The defense only allowed 6 more points in the game, while the offense took advantage of every offensive opportunity and adding 30 points to secure the 58-12 win extending their over-all record to 2-1.
The Panthers will be on the road again next Friday, traveling to Glendale to challenge the 1-2 Glendale Pirates, at 7:00pm.
