OSP Trooper Rescues Hiker on the Oregon Coast Trail

On Thursday, May 14th, Mr. Higgins called 911 to report he had fallen off the path while hiking on the Oregon Coast Trail, which is extremely steep terrain. Emergency services including the Curry County Sheriff’s Office’s Office Rope Rescue team, Cal-Ore Ambulance and the Oregon State Police were immediately activated.

Mr. Higgins reported being near a waterfall and provided a description of his vehicle, which he had parked at the access to the trail he was on.

Oregon State Trooper Alexis North was the first on scene and located Mr. Higgin’s vehicle parked near the Thomas Creek Bridge just off Hwy 101.

Trooper North hiked a short distance down the trail where she located Mr. Higgins. Trooper North assessed the scene and determined she could safely assist with an extraction. Mr. Higgins was uninjured from the fall, however a bit muddy.
