It is with a heavy heart that the Oregon State Police have announced the passing of retired K-9 Officer Keno. Officer Keno started his career as an Oregon State Police Drug Detection K-9 in February of 2015. He was assigned to Sr. Trooper Freitag and worked out of the Salem Area Command. Keno’s career was cut short, when a tumor was discovered next to his brain stem.
Even though Keno’s career was short, it was still impressive. Keno was responsible for the following career finds and seizures:
• US Currency $250,182.00
• Marijuana 36,449.96 grams
• Methamphetamine 55,412.05 grams
• Cocaine 5,746 grams
• Heroin 4,397.70 grams
• Total K-9 field applications 131
Keno was retired in October and spent the last couple months with Sr. Trooper Freitag and his family. Keno was able to enjoy living on the farm with the other animals and getting spoiled by his two legged family.
We would like to thank Sr. Trooper Freitag and family for the love and care they provided to Keno in the last months of this life. Keno will be greatly missed.
