On Monday, April 2nd, what appeared to be a live grenade, was dropped off at the Grants Pass Parkway Fire Station. This resulted in a number of roads being closed causing traffic and delays throughout the downtown area as authorities rerouted traffic away from the location.
Just after 11:00 am Police Officers from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety met an elderly woman and her grandson at the Parkway Public Safety Building.
The elderly female turned over a grenade to officers. She reported being given the grenade in 1945. Officers placed the device outside the building and created a perimeter around the device causing a traffic situation for almost 3 full hours.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was dispatched to the Fire Department to assist and remove the device.
