The state of Oregon experienced its highest day of new COVID-19 infections Friday, September 25th, recording 457 new official cases in one day. Oregon cases grew another 1,972 in the past week, rising 495 cases from the previous week for the second week in a row after 5 consecutive weeks of fewer cases. The previous single day outbreak record was 436 on July 19th.
Officials from the Oregon Health Authority contribute the increase to gatherings related to the return of students to campuses as well as private parties and Labor Day weekend. Clatsop County in northwest Oregon led all counties with new cases reaching 73 new cases reportedly related to a Pacific Seafood plant.
Now six northern Oregon counties continue to lead Oregon in new cases and total cases as Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Washington, Umatilla now Clatsop counties continue to comprise 65% of all of the state of Oregon’s cases adding 1,038, fully 53% of the states 1,972 new cases in these six counties alone. In the past week these 6 counties now report 21,176 of the states 32,314 total COVID-19 cases. 70% of the state’s deaths from COVID-19 are attributed to these counties.
Curry County’s latest report Friday, September 25th, now reports testing 1,801 individuals with 1,771 negative tests, and now has 6 active cases of COVID-19 while the county has 24 recovered cases and 0 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, September 25th.
Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 8,577 with 8,438 negative results, 136 total cases, 1 active cases reported to Public Health, with 0 current hospitalizations and 1 death.
Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 501 total cases, adding 19 new CoVID-19 cases in the past week after testing 28,402 individuals with now 21 active cases, 473 recoveries, 30 hospitalizations with new death totaling now 7 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, September 25th.
Coos County to the north, reported testing 6,841 individuals with 6,732 negative tests, adding 16 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week with now 152 total positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic, with 25 recoveries and 0 deaths.
Josephine County reports testing 11,850 individuals with 11,681 negative results, adding 17 new cases in the past week, 197 total positive cases of COVID-19 of which 115 are recovered cases, and 2 deaths.
Jackson County continues to see significant increases after reporting another 78 cases of COVID-19 this past week after testing 33,928 individuals with 32,894 negative test results, 1,123 total cases of COVID-19, 296 recovered cases and now 5 deaths as of Friday September 25th.
