Oregon COVID-19 Cases Slow… Curry County Moves to ‘High Risk’

Oregon continues to see significant declines in COVID-19 infection rates as they continue to hover at around 300 cases per day, now averaging just 314 new cases per day with 2,156 new COVID cases across the state in the past week. Oregon continues to hold one of the lowest infection rates in the nation with now 159,037 cases. Hospitalizations slowed again for the fourth consecutive week with 6 fewer individuals requiring hospitalization in the past week than the week prior, adding only 139 individuals requiring hospitalization, raising the statewide total to 8,714. 26 individuals succumbed to COVID-19 in the past week, making the total deaths for the entire state of Oregon, 2,319 since the pandemic began.

Effective March 12 through March 25, there will be two counties in the Extreme Risk level, nine at High Risk, 12 at Moderate Risk, and 13 at Lower Risk. On Monday, March 8th, Curry County Public Health Administrator Sherrié R. Ward announce that “Curry County was still currently in the moderate risk level based on the Governor’s two week extension.” However, on Friday Curry County’s ‘two week extension’ expired, and Curry County’s risk level was reassessed to ‘High Risk’.

Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday by the Oregon Health Authority, March 12th, now reports testing 9,196 individuals with 8,799 negative tests, 397 total positive COVID-19 tests and after adding 33 new cases in the last week has recorded 469 total cases and now 7 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 13,369 with 12,313 negative results, 41 active cases and 1,056 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 0 current hospitalization and now 6 deaths.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 38,848 individuals last week with 36,784 negative results, 1,679 total positive cases and 21 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County reports testing 56,479 individuals with 53,654 negative results, 2,490 total positive cases of COVID-19 and now 58 deaths.

Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 3,349 total cases after testing 77,118 individuals with 73,769 negative results, 126 active cases, 3,189 recoveries, 134 hospitalizations, and 34 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, March 12th.

Jackson County continues to see significant increases after testing 190,578 individuals with 177,687 negative test results, 8,734 total cases of COVID-19 with now 120 deaths as of Friday, March 12th.
