Just before 4:30pm, Monday, December 27th, Josephine County 911 received numerous calls from multiple locations, regarding a fully involved structure on a hilltop in the Hugo area. Crews from Rural Metro Fire located the single-wide mobile home structure with it’s only access being a long driveway.
First-arriving units encountered an ascending, un-plowed, snow-covered driveway that limited access by standard fire apparatus. A small 4WD wildland engine was able to reach the home, which had already collapsed.
A county snowplow was requested, but was unable to fully clear the narrow driveway due to scattered vehicles and debris along the edge of the driveway, limiting places to push the snow as the small 4WD wildland engine shuttled loads of water up the driveway from units staged at the bottom.
One fatality has been confirmed, however, no further information has been released at this time.
