One in Four Oregonians Vaccinated…Curry County Public Health is Disbanded

With almost one in four Oregonians now counted as vaccinated, and as vaccination eligibility opens up to everyone age 16 and older, Governor Brown released a statement Friday reminding Oregonians that wearing our masks, limiting our gatherings, and getting vaccinated are “key to unlocking the restrictions this pandemic has forced on us, so we can return to doing the things we love and seeing the people we miss.”

Oregon COVID-19 infection rates now average at just 612 new cases per day, with 4,288 new COVID-19 cases across the entire state in the past week. Oregon now has a total of 173,626 COVID-19 cases. Hospitalizations continued to stay low, raising the statewide total to 9,582 since the beginning of the pandemic. According to the Oregon Health Authority, 17 individuals succumbed to COVID-19 in the past week, making the total deaths for the entire state of Oregon, 2,457 since the pandemic began.   

After communications between the Oregon Health Authority and Curry County regarding Oregon Health Authority demands on improvements at Curry County Public Health over the past few weeks, the Curry County Board of Commissioners voted 2-1 to disband Curry County Public Health and relinquish control to the Oregon Health Authority.

Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday April 16th, by the Oregon Health Authority, now reports testing 11,208 individuals with 10,701 negative tests, 507 total positive COVID-19 tests and after adding 17 new cases in the last week and has recorded 591 total cases and still 9 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 14,310 with 13,070 negative results, 34 active cases and 1,274 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 3 current hospitalizations and now 7 deaths.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 45,679 individuals last week with 43,279 negative results, 2,400 total positive cases and 31 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County has seen significant increases in recent weeks has reported testing 70,989 individuals with 67,490 negative results, 3,499 total positive test results and 3,042 total cases of COVID-19 and now 62 deaths.

Humboldt County which includes the Eureka area, to the south of Del Norte County reports 3,597 total cases after testing 84,518 individuals with 80,923 negative results, 84 active cases, 3,466 recoveries, 137 hospitalizations, and 37 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Jackson County with a total population of 221,290, which includes the Medford area, reports testing 220,055 individuals with 205,156 negative test results, 14,899 positive results, and 9,846 total cases of COVID-19 with now 127 deaths as of Friday, April 16th.
