On Monday morning, January 13th, just before 10:30am,first responders were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Hwy. 101 south of Crescent City at mile marker 16.
According to a California Highway Patrol press release late Monday, a 2003 Suzuki Sport Utility Vehicle was traveling north on Hwy. 101 when the vehicle left the roadway.
The vehicle, driven by a 73 year Brookings man, reportedly lost control of the vehicle before it left the roadway, overturned, and struck a large Redwood tree on the east side of the roadway.
The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and unfortunately sustained fatal injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
